Five Motivating Networking Quotes for Entrepreneurs

As you learned in the post 8 Disney Quotes for Entrepreneurs, I love a good quote! With a recent focus of mine being networking, I decided to put together a list of my favorite networking quotes.

Networking is important if you want to grow your business. While some people have success mainly networking online, other people, like me, need to network locally to fulfill business missions and goals.

Last month, I decided that networking would be my top priority. I took advantage of every opportunity I could put on my calendar and I think I attended more events and had more coffee chats in the last month than I did in all of last year. The best thing is, I am seeing the rewards of my effort!

If you are not networking as much as you should, I encourage you to find opportunities within the next week or two. To help you have the most successful networking engagements, please enjoy my favorite networking quotes.

“Everyone you will ever meet knows something you don’t.” Bill Nye

As you network, you expand your potential reach and knowledge with each new person you meet. The next person you meet could be the one to give you the one piece of information that you need to be successful but are currently lacking.

Alternatively, they might merely offer you a different, but much needed, point-of-view. Sometimes seeing the same thing in a different way is all you need for a breakthrough.

Continue to improve your knowledge by continuing to increase your network. Each new contact is a unique opportunity to expand and grow.

Networking is not about instant wins. Hardly ever are you going to walk away from a networking event with a newly signed contract or cash in hand.

Instead, you must see each new connection at a networking event as an opportunity to plant the seed of a relationship. With proper care and attention, that seed can grow into exactly what you what it to be.

However, while some plants mature quicker than others, it will take time to develop the relationships needed for you to succeed.

With networking, you have to help one another to become successful. Before you can expect other people to give to you, you must be willing to give to them in terms of referrals, support, and knowledge.

Sometimes supporting others even means helping those who are possibly your competition. You should always form relationships with the people who perform similar services or offer similar products. This is because at times you will not be able to fulfill a potential customer’s needs. Instead of turning the customer away empty handed or insist on giving them something that they will not be delighted with, it is best to direct them to someone who can give them what they want.

Not only does your recommendation boost your reputation in the customer’s mind, but it also grows your connection with your competition. In turn, it cultivates your place within their network.

For many people, the thought of networking is a scary one. Between the small talk, meeting people you don’t know, and putting yourself out there, it is easy to see why it intimidates some people.

However, networking is something that needs to be done if you want to grow your business. While networking can take many forms and happen in many arenas, it cannot be avoided.

Like Mary Schmich said, “Do one thing every day that scares you.” If networking is intimidating for you, some days networking needs to be that one thing that scares you.

“Courage starts with showing up and letting ourselves be seen” – Brene Brown

“Courage starts with showing up and letting ourselves be seen.” Brene Brown

Before you deem yourself as successful while running a small business, it is very easy to feel like an imposter. You believe that everyone else is more successful, was able to achieve your desired levels of success quicker, or is above you in every way. Often these feelings can cause fear and stop someone from networking.

However, networking is all about having courage. It’s about putting your best foot forward and showing who you want to be instead of focusing on who you are today. In a lot of cases, you are actually closer to who you want to be than you think you are.

Networking takes courage. But, to even start networking, you have to show up. Then, to be successful, you have to let your strengths and your personality shine through. One event or opportunity at a time, you can do it!
